Apple just gave your teen a 12-hour ghosting button

Do you track your kid with Find My iPhone? Does it show they're upstairs right now?

…Maybe go check.

The new iPhone update added a button called "Hide Location." One tap, and poof — gone from the map for 12 hours. No notification to you. Apple just… didn't mention it. Cool. Cool cool cool.

If Find My is the reason you sleep at night, congratulations: there's now an off switch, and it was installed by Apple.

Don't panic-text them mid-vanish. Just ask at dinner, real casual: "hey, have you seen the new Hide Location thing?" Then watch their face do something extremely interesting.

Oh, and some kids don't even need the button. They leave an old iPhone at home, still logged in, so Find My shows them tucked safely in their bedroom while they're very much not. If your teen has a "broken" old phone they dramatically refuse to throw away — it's not nostalgia. It's alibi infrastructure.

TikTok is the new Google (you're old)

You Google things. It's fine. It's what we do. Your teenager, meanwhile, searches TikTok — homework answers, outfit ideas, recipes, life advice, all of it. Google is for moms and job applications.

"Get off TikTok" hits different when it's also their tutor and search engine. Meanwhile the actual friend gossip lives on Snapchat, and Instagram is just the highlight reel. Nobody's real life looks like their Instagram. Especially not yours.

How we know

We ask the teenagers.

Every week we talk to a group of real teenagers about what they're watching, saying, buying, and obsessing over. Then our writers do the research and explain it so a parent can follow it.

  1. 01

    Teens tell us

We talk to them every week. What's new, what's over, and what they'd never bother explaining to you.

  2. 02

    We do the homework

Our writers check it, research it, watch it, use it, and track down where it came from. Then they work out why it matters and how to explain it to a parent of a teenager.

  3. 03

    You get the debrief

We boil it all down into one easy email, free, once a week. Five minutes and you're caught up on what your kid is seeing, saying, and watching.

Everything your teenager won't explain. The slang they're using, the people they're watching, the apps they're on, the shows they're quoting — about six stories a week, readable in five minutes with your coffee.

Yes. The weekly newsletter is free, full stop. One email a week, five minutes, zero dollars.

$9 a month, when it launches. Expect deeper dives and the good stuff we're still cooking up. The free weekly email isn't going anywhere.

From teenagers. We run a panel of actual teens who tell us what's cool and what's dead, work with teachers who witness it all firsthand, and translate it into parent. No guessing, no lectures.
